Rock on with our Rock’n’roll quiz questions!
Rock and roll is one of the music genres which all we know and love. It became popular in the mid-1940s; at that time it was a mixture of African-American underground music genres – boogie-woogie, jazz, blues and others. The phrase “rocking and rolling” usually used by sailors to describe the motion of a ship dates back to the 17th century, but at the beginning of the 19th century its meaning changed. Similar phrases slipped into popular discourse, but one in particular became the inspiration for the genre’s naming. By the 1920s, “rocking and rolling” became a popular double entendre referring to dancing. Beyond the musical style, rock’n’roll has influenced the way of life, patterns and attitudes and even the language of many generations of rockers from all over the globe. Are you a real rocknrolla?
